Spotlight
on Lucas Boto
Bethel's Sound Operator
Lucas
Boto moved to Los Angeles from Nashville about a year ago,
in order to finish school, and interned at a couple record
labels. Upon graduation, he was hired by a Christian who wanted
Lucas to start the west coast division of an artist management
company. (Lucas doesn’t manage Bethel's
worship leaders, "The Daylights," but has known
Randy and Ricky for seven years and supports them in any way
he can.) Growing up Southern Baptist but attending
Bible churches as well, Lucas says,"I attended church
since I was born!" He thinks Bethel Lutheran might
just be the first Lutheran church he's ever attended.
So what brought this talented, young fellow to us? "It's
funny," he said. "It's not like I heard a voice
from God or anything. I came a few times and it just felt
like it was right. A big part of it was the people -- the
willingness of the people to do God's will and their positive
outlook on change. That had a big part to do with it."
In his spare time, Lucas writes songs and plays instruments
,mainly the guitar and the piano but also "the kazoo,"
he adds, then -- "Just kidding." But seriously,
even more unique than that, Lucas plays the Didgeridoo,
an important instrument of the cultural heritage of Australian
Aboriginal groups from northern Australia.
His parents and a younger brother and sister, still live
back in Nashville but recently paid a visit to Lucas and
to us here at Bethel. Being close to his family, it's been
odd for him to be so far away from them, for so long. "My
family has been the biggest and greatest influence on me.
They're the ones who taught me the truth about Jesus. That's
the thing I'm most grateful for is knowing the Lord."
